What does a "Boy-Lead" or "Scout-Run" troop look like? Weekly meetings are run by a Senior Patrol Leader, a scout that has held other leadership positions. Each patrol plans its camp-outs including the meals and who will take on the various tasks. The Patrol Leadership Council meets monthly to plan the next month's weekly meetings. Having a scout run troop builds leadership skills, confidence and ownership in troop activities.
Adults are still involved in the process - offering advice, breaking stalemates and making sure that the plans are safe and sane. They monitor events, provide guidance, and step in only when they need to. While the Scouts themselves run the troop, adult participation is critical. Many have stepped forward and, there is room for more.
