Finances in Troop 8 fall into two categories, the troop general fund and a scouts individual scout account.
A scout is expected to pay for the following from their Scout Account:
Annual Dues of $180 (this includes BSA annual membership, food and supplies for campouts, insurance, and merit badges)
Boy's Life magazine ($12 and is optional)
Merit Badge classes ($10-$50) and Troop 8 attend up to four per year.
Scout Camp, including merit badge supplies (starts at $300)
High Adventure (historically the troop has strived to keep that under $500 per participant),
Individual Scout Accounts are funded by fundraiser profits or by deposits from the Scout or their family.
Troop 8 covers other expenses from the general fund. Expenses include, but not limited to:
Troop chartering fees
Troop insurance
Advancement awards and parent pins
Position Patches
Troop-provided insignia
Patrol camping equipment
Equipment maintenance
Campground registration fees
Trailer license
